Tour Itinerary
Drive to Zugdidi. Meet with a local guide and continue up the Enguri Gorge, where the Svan ethnic group thrived, cut off from the world by the high, inaccessible mountains. Overnight in guesthouse in Mestia. (B,LD)
Spend the morning exploring Mestia visiting a watch tower and the Historical-Ethnographic Museum with its icons and manuscripts. Depart to Ushguli, located 2,200 metres above sea level, it is considered one of the highest populated villages in Europe. Overnight in guesthouse in Ushguli. (B,L,D)
Morning trek towards Mount Shkara. After lunch return to Mestia and visit Laghami St. George's Church and a traditional Svan house. Overnight in a guesthouse in Mestia. (B,L,D)
This long day takes you back to Tbilisi (changing vehicles in Zugdidi). En route back to Tbilisi, if time permits, visit Ubisi Church. Arrive Tbilisi and transfer to the hotel for an overnight stay. (B,L)
